The Iv set is a sterile, one-time use, a latex-free system for providing fluids, a medical device intended for intravenous administration of solutions.
1.At the top with a spike and it is covered by a protective sheath that keeps it sterile.
If using a bottle for infusion, we need to open the vent cap to allow air to go into the bottle for fluid to release.
2.Following that, the disposable Iv set has a drip chamber. If you’re gonna be calculating your drip rate by gravity,
you’ll need to note that it’s 20 drops per ml for this set.
3.To ensure we have the correct amount of fluid in the drip chamber, a line at the bottom indicates the minimum level of fluid needed to prevent airflow from going through the line. We want to fill that chamber about one third to half full.
4.We’re visually inspecting the tubing, and we’ll notice that we come first to the check valve, which prevents any fluid from going back up towards the bag that is currently hanging. Then we come next to our first smart sight. This would be where we could attach a secondary line.
5.The next thing we come to will be the roller clamp. We will use this to manipulate the flow if we are running fluid by gravity
and use it to clamp off the line before spike our bag.
6. Finally, as we continue to inspect the line, we’ll come past another smart sight down to the male Luer, and the male Luer is
also a sterile tip, ready to be attached to our patient. Actually, take off the catheter now, and the sterile tip is exposed. Now you can manage the flow all the way down to the male Luer. And got the fluid in the drip chamber, ready to let it roll.
